ABODE Contemplative Care for the Dying provides a peaceful, home-like environment for people approaching the end of life in San Antonio, Texas. Guests receive compassionate care and a place to live at no charge during their final months, weeks or days. ABODE provides 24-hour personal, spiritual and contemplative care, along with shelter and meals. Specially trained staff, volunteers and end-of-life doulas help guests and their families navigate the physical, emotional and spiritual experience of dying.

ABODE is not a hospital, nursing home or medical hospice facility and does not provide skilled nursing or medical services. Guests continue receiving medical care through their licensed hospice agency and physician. ABODE works alongside hospice providers to help carry out the individual's hospice care plan. The organization also helps families understand the dying process, supports loved ones through grief and provides compassionate guidance when children are involved. Most importantly for families facing financial hardship, ABODE does not charge guests or hospice agencies for its care. The nonprofit relies on donations and community support to provide its services.
