
Academia América helps immigrants in San Antonio, Texas prepare for U.S. citizenship and successfully navigate the naturalization process. Founded in 2008, Academia América is a nonprofit organization focused on the social and civic integration of immigrants. Its programs combine citizenship education, English and civics instruction, access to affordable legal assistance and civic-engagement education.
The organization's Nuevos Ciudadanos Citizenship Education Program helps lawful immigrants prepare for the U.S. naturalization examination. The curriculum includes instruction in English and U.S. civics while encouraging participants to become actively engaged in their communities. Academia América also partners with nonprofit legal-service providers to help participants access low-cost immigration legal assistance. Students enrolled in its classes can receive assistance with completing naturalization applications and related forms at affordable rates.
The organization also sponsors civic-engagement workshops covering topics such as government, elections and voting eligibility. Voter-registration assistance is available for recently naturalized citizens. Academia América reports that more than 1,500 clients have benefited from its programs and services and more than 1,000 people have enrolled in its Nuevos Ciudadanos citizenship education program.
