American Gateways provides free and low-cost immigration legal services in San Antonio for eligible low-income immigrants and families. The nonprofit has served immigrant communities in Central Texas since 1987 and provides culturally sensitive, trauma-informed immigration legal representation. Immigration attorneys and legal staff assist clients with cases involving asylum, permanent residency (green cards), U.S. citizenship and naturalization, DACA renewals and family-based immigration petitions.
American Gateways also provides specialized immigration legal representation for survivors of violence and persecution. This includes VAWA petitions for survivors of domestic violence, T visas for survivors of human trafficking and U visas for survivors of qualifying violent crimes. Services are available to people who meet American Gateways' income guidelines and case priorities. New clients seeking assistance through the San Antonio office should first call for a telephone legal screening. The San Antonio office operates by appointment only. The City of San Antonio also identifies American Gateways as a provider of free or reduced-cost immigration legal services in the community.
