The Bexar Area Harm Reduction Coalition (BAHRC) provides compassionate, low-barrier harm reduction services for people who use drugs in San Antonio and Bexar County. BAHRC works to reduce overdose risk, HIV, hepatitis and other health complications associated with drug use by providing practical health supplies, education and connections to community resources. Harm reduction services include syringe services and sharps disposal, safer-use supplies, condoms and safe-sex kits, naloxone education and overdose prevention, wound-care support, STI testing and referrals to healthcare, substance use treatment, recovery and other community services.
BAHRC uses a nonjudgmental approach that meets individuals where they are. People do not have to be in recovery or stop using substances before receiving harm reduction information and support. By providing sterile supplies, overdose prevention education, health resources and safe disposal of used syringes, BAHRC works to reduce preventable infections, overdoses and other health risks while creating opportunities for people to connect with healthcare and supportive services. Individuals should contact BAHRC or check its current outreach schedule before visiting, as service locations, hours and available supplies may change.
