Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Texas provides youth mentoring programs that connect children and teens with caring, positive adult role models in San Antonio and communities throughout South Texas. Through one-to-one mentoring, volunteer mentors known as “Bigs” are matched with young people known as “Littles.” Mentors provide friendship, encouragement and guidance while helping young people build confidence, develop new interests, work toward personal goals and create positive connections within their community.

Community-Based Mentoring allows Bigs and Littles to spend time together participating in activities they enjoy. Mentors make a minimum one-year commitment and meet with their Little at least once each month. Volunteers complete an application, screening process, background check, orientation and training before being matched with a child. Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Texas also offers Workplace Mentoring, where participating employers give employees opportunities to mentor youth while introducing students to careers and workplace environments.

Youth Enrichment Workshops provide additional opportunities for young people ages 12–17 to strengthen communication skills, confidence, social connections and their ability to identify and develop supportive relationships with trusted adults.
