Bluebird’s Hope is a nonprofit organization providing free, patient-centered and trauma-informed forensic nursing care for survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, strangulation and human trafficking in communities throughout Texas. Specially trained forensic nurses provide comprehensive medical forensic examinations designed to address a survivor’s immediate healthcare needs while also providing the option to document injuries and collect forensic evidence.

Services may include evaluation and treatment of injuries, photographic documentation, biological evidence collection, pregnancy and sexually transmitted infection prevention when medically appropriate, and referrals for additional medical, counseling and psychological support. Bluebird’s Hope provides both medical care and forensic evidence collection in a compassionate, nonjudgmental environment. Survivors can receive care from nurses specifically trained to work with individuals who have experienced sexual assault, intimate partner violence, strangulation and human trafficking.

In addition to direct survivor care, Bluebird’s Hope provides education and training designed to increase awareness, strengthen forensic nursing services and help communities prevent and respond to sexual and interpersonal violence. Forensic medical examinations are provided at no cost to survivors.
