Mission: Our mission is to restore dignity, hope, and trust to children traumatized by abuse and neglect.
We believe the beginning of this journey is the beginning of the healing process, and that it doesn’t have to be a journey that overwhelms a child or family.

She oversees multiple client-facing programs, ensuring service quality, staff development, and strategic community collaboration. With expertise in forensic interviewing, trauma-informed care, and resource coordination, Myriam is committed to fostering resilience, improving access to resources, and driving meaningful change in the child welfare system. Established in 1992, ChildSafe is a nonprofit organization that was created to combat child sexual abuse in our community. Serving as Bexar County’s only Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC), they provide a continuum of care – medical, counseling and support services to child sexual abuse survivors and their non-offending family members.
ChildSafe is under a larger non-profit called Children Advocacy Centers of Texas (CAC Texas) where there are 70 CACs throughout Texas. When ChildSafe is made aware of a case, it is a long-term process where their multidisciplinary team gets involved. They are trauma-focused, so many clients are referred to them through Law Enforcement or Child Protective Services. Bexar County has one of the highest problems with abuse and ChildSafe had over 3,000 new cases last year. Overall, ChildSafe saw 5,699 clients and provided over 25,000 services to children and their caregivers.
They have a partnership with DFPS where they use a database to enter client information, but they also receive every statewide intake that comes in for Bexar County where they search for any services that can assist a client. They perform awareness training for many organizations, including schools, to educate both staff and students on how to identify abuse. Through providing wrap-around prevention and intervention services, ChildSafe is diligently working to create a safer community for our Bexar County children!
Over the last ten years, ChildSafe has seen their cases grow. More people are educated about abuse, which means more cases are being reported. ChildSafe is responsible for many convictions where the family gets a sense of justice. However, ChildSafe knows that healing doesn’t stop with a conviction. Their success includes 95% of their clients reporting their trauma symptoms have decreased. They have a client certificate ceremony where they invite all clients to join ChildSafe staff and volunteers in a celebration for them. The goal is that after families come through their system of services, they are well on their way towards healing and thriving after the trauma they have experienced.
