Clarity Child Guidance Center
Clarity Child Guidance Center is a nonprofit mental health center dedicated to providing mental health treatment for children ages 3-17. In September 2024, Clarity opened an 8-bed unit dedicated to children and teens with very complex issues, which is the only one of its kind in South Texas. It features trauma-informed spaces, a secure courtyard and a dedicated space for programming. This unit will serve an additional 700 children a year, bringing the annual total served to 6,000+ children and teens.
Clarity offers a 74-bed inpatient mental health hospital; a 24/7 walk-in Crisis Services department for children experiencing a mental health emergency; intensive daily treatment through partial hospitalization program; outpatient therapy; psychological assessments; care coordination; and recreational therapy. When a child is in crisis, Clarity works with families to get much needed treatment regardless of their ability to pay.
13 years ago, Clarity dedicated itself to trauma-informed care and has been going through a year-long program to earn their Trauma-Informed Care Certification. The certification process addresses employee feedback, training, education among staff members, and site visits. Potentially traumatic events include:
- Psychological, physical, or sexual abuse
- Community or school violence
- Witnessing or experiencing domestic violence
- National disasters or terrorism
- Commercial sexual exploitation
- Sudden or violent loss of a loved one
- Refugee or war experiences
- Military family-related stressors (e.g., deployment, parental loss or injury)
- Physical or sexual assault
- Neglect
- Serious accidents or life-threatening illness
