Healthy Start – Free Pregnancy, Parenting & Infant Support in San Antonio

San Antonio Healthy Start is a program of the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District that helps pregnant women, new parents, babies, and families have healthier pregnancies, healthy births, and a strong start during the baby's first years of life. Healthy Start provides free virtual and home-visiting services that connect eligible families with personalized support, education, and community resources during pregnancy and after the baby is born.

Services include case management, prenatal and parenting health education, depression screening and referrals, lactation and breastfeeding support, safe-sleep education, fatherhood support, outreach, and connections to other health and community services. Doula services are available for high-risk mothers who qualify. Doulas can provide education and support during pregnancy and help mothers prepare for childbirth and the postpartum period.

Healthy Start also helps parents learn about infant health and development, safe sleep practices, breastfeeding, and other topics that can help give babies a healthier beginning. The Fatherhood Initiative helps engage fathers and encourages their involvement in pregnancy, parenting, and the healthy development of their children.
