HOME Intervention Services (HIS) is a San Antonio nonprofit helping women, families, and individuals involved with the criminal justice system overcome barriers to housing, employment, education, and successful community reentry. They provide affordable transitional housing for women who are working to rebuild their lives, including women returning to the community after incarceration. Eligible women and their children may receive a stable place to live while working toward greater independence and long-term housing stability.
They focus on reducing recidivism by helping individuals address practical obstacles that can make successful reentry difficult. Support can include housing assistance, basic-needs services, education, employment preparation, career resources, mentoring, and connections to community programs. Employment assistance helps participants prepare to return to the workforce. They work with community partners to help individuals with career searches, employment opportunities, job readiness, and the skills needed to become more financially independent.
Educational services have included literacy and personal-development programs designed to help participants strengthen decision-making and life skills. As a faith-based nonprofit, they provide practical assistance and encouragement to people in underserved communities while helping participants develop the stability, skills, and support needed to improve their quality of life.
