HUG ME Ink – Mental Health Peer Support & Arts Programs in San Antonio

HUG ME Ink (Helping to Unite by Generating Mental Empowerment) is a San Antonio peer-led nonprofit organization that promotes mental health awareness, recovery, empowerment, and bullying prevention through the arts. They use performing arts, film, music, dance, visual arts, writing, and other creative activities to encourage self-expression and help reduce the stigma surrounding mental health conditions. Programs combine creativity with education, peer support, community resources, and opportunities for people to connect with others.

Peer Support is an important part of HUG ME Ink's work. Its team includes Peer Support Specialists, Community Health Workers, and Social Workers who help connect community members with support and resources. Programs serve a broad range of residents, including youth, adults, seniors, and veterans. Arts programs include creative workshops, performing arts camps, acting classes, and dance classes. These activities provide opportunities for participants to express themselves, build confidence, connect with others, and promote mental wellness through creativity.

They provide workforce development services. Participants can receive help with résumé writing, job coaching, interview skills, money management, and life-skills training. The organization partners with San Antonio Ready to Work to help connect residents with employment and career-development opportunities. Youth outreach combines the arts with education about mental health and bullying prevention. Creative programs and community events help young people develop confidence, express themselves, build positive relationships, and learn strategies for responding to bullying.
