Military & Veteran Financial and Housing Assistance in San Antonio | Operation Homefront

Operation Homefront is a national nonprofit headquartered in San Antonio that helps military members, veterans and their families build strong, stable and secure lives through financial assistance, housing programs and ongoing family support. The Critical Financial Assistance Program helps eligible military families experiencing financial hardship with essential expenses. Depending on eligibility and need, assistance may be available for rent or mortgage payments, utilities, groceries, auto payments, transportation, medical expenses, critical baby items, essential household items and certain home repairs. Financial assistance is provided as grants rather than loans.

They also provide housing assistance for veterans and military families through several programs, including Permanent Homes for Veterans, Transitional Homes for Veterans, Transitional Housing Apartments and Transitional Housing Villages. Their Transitional Housing Villages program provides rent-free two- and three-bedroom apartments for eligible wounded, ill and injured service members and their families as they transition from military service. The San Antonio program primarily serves families receiving care through Joint Base San Antonio and the Audie Murphy VA Hospital.

Housing programs may also provide case management, financial counseling, employment assistance and connections to community resources to help military and veteran families achieve long-term financial stability and independence. They support military families through programs and events such as Back-to-School Brigade, Holiday Meals for Military, Star-Spangled Babies, holiday toy programs and Homefront Celebrations.
