Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services (PCHAS) provides counseling, housing and family support programs designed to strengthen children, young adults and families in San Antonio. The PCHAS San Antonio campus provides supportive housing for single-parent families through duplex apartments and skills-development services. The program helps single parents with children work toward greater stability and independence while keeping their families together.
PCHAS also provides Transitional Living for Young Adults for young people ages 18–22 who need additional support as they transition from foster care or difficult life circumstances into independent adulthood. The San Antonio program includes studio apartments and supportive services that help young adults develop the skills needed to live independently. The Counseling Centers at PCHAS provide professional mental health counseling for children, adults, couples and families. In-person counseling is available at the San Antonio campus, and virtual counseling is available for clients located throughout Texas.
Counseling services are available for individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, anger, relationship difficulties, parenting challenges and other emotional or behavioral concerns. Therapists also work with children experiencing behavioral difficulties at home or school and provide support for children involved in foster care or adoption who may be processing trauma or adjusting to a new family environment. Couples counseling and family therapy are available to help strengthen relationships, communication and family functioning.
PCHAS accepts private pay, most major insurance plans and Medicaid. The Counseling Centers also work to make mental health services accessible to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship who may have difficulty affording traditional private-practice counseling. PCHAS also provides Child & Family services designed to help families remain safely together during difficult circumstances. Family preservation services can assist families facing challenges such as poverty, homelessness, abuse, neglect, illness, violence, substance use or other crises.
