Project Transformation Rio Texas is a nonprofit organization that provides educational, literacy and enrichment programs for children while developing college-age young adults as mentors, leaders and community servants in San Antonio and other communities across South Texas. Project Transformation's summer day camps help children strengthen their reading skills while providing a safe and supportive environment for learning, recreation and relationship building. Programs are hosted in partnership with local churches and community organizations.

Children participate in daily reading and literacy activities designed to help maintain and improve academic skills during the summer months. Reading levels are assessed at the beginning and end of the program, and children receive individualized reading time with volunteers and mentors. Summer activities also include art, recreation, social-emotional learning, games and other enrichment opportunities. Children receive books throughout the summer to help build their own home libraries and encourage continued reading outside the program.

College-age young adults serve as mentors and leaders in Project Transformation programs. Through summer internships and service opportunities, young adults gain hands-on experience working with children, develop leadership skills, live and work in community and explore careers or callings in ministry, nonprofit service, education and community leadership. Project Transformation also partners with churches to help congregations build stronger relationships with children and families in their surrounding neighborhoods. Churches provide program sites, volunteers and other support while becoming more connected with the communities they serve.
