Texas Burn Survivor Society (TBSS) is a San Antonio-based nonprofit organization providing care, comfort and essential services to people affected by serious burn and thermal injuries and their families. TBSS supports burn survivors during recovery and after hospitalization through emergency financial assistance, scar-management support, peer connections, camps for young burn survivors, family assistance and other programs designed to help survivors rebuild confidence and return to active, productive lives.

The organization also provides burn-prevention and fire-safety education throughout the community. Help for burn survivors & their families recovering from a serious burn injury can involve medical, financial, emotional and practical challenges that continue long after a person leaves the hospital. Texas Burn Survivor Society provides programs designed to help survivors and families throughout the recovery process.

Emergency Financial Assistance

The Basil Pruitt Assistance Program provides emergency financial assistance to burn patients and their families at burn units throughout Texas. When a family has no other source of assistance available, Texas Burn Survivor Society may help with urgent needs such as:

• Food
• Shelter
• Emergency transportation

Scar Management & Pressure Garment Assistance

Texas Burn Survivor Society helps burn survivors who cannot afford physician-prescribed pressure garments. These custom-made compression garments can be an important part of scar management following a serious burn injury. TBSS underwrites the cost of prescribed pressure garments for qualifying burn survivors who otherwise could not afford to fill their garment prescriptions. Burn Survivor Peer Support

Texas Burn Survivor Society provides opportunities for burn survivors to connect with others who understand the challenges of burn injury and recovery. Its peer support group gives survivors an opportunity to share experiences, encourage one another and build connections with people who have experienced similar injuries. Camp David – Camp for Young Burn Survivors

Camp David is a cost-free camp experience for pediatric burn survivors ages 7–16. The program provides children with opportunities for recreation, friendship, personal growth and confidence-building in a supportive environment. Camp David also welcomes siblings and children of burn survivors whose lives have been significantly affected by a family member's burn injury.
